Join our Money team and you’ll see what we mean.
And whether they pop into a branch, pick up the phone, or have a chinwag with our Financial Advice team, they leave with a little more knowledge and a lot more confidence when it comes to their money.
This is where you’ll meet Margaret in Harrogate, Nadiya in Altrincham, or Daniel in Croydon - in person. You might be based in one branch, or you might spend your time across different local branches. Either way, you’ll be the face - and the savings specialist - that reassures the people you speak to. Our members will come to you with questions, plans, and sometimes worries. You’ll listen, understand, and help them move their plans forward, sometimes making them aware of options they hadn’t considered.
Our branches are a key part of local communities, too. Some are small, others are big and bustling, but they’re all friendly. Wherever you are, you’ll play a role in that community. Which is something else that feels really good.
You’ll probably begin your career dealing with everyday transactions. Over time, you’ll have deeper conversations and take on more responsibility. And if you want to try something new, some of our people have moved from branches into roles within the wider business.
Now that’s what we call branching out.
In our Contact Centre, you’ll be in touch with members from all over the country, whose financial lives are moving in just as many directions. If we had to describe it, the words high-energy and fast-moving spring to mind. But it’s much more than that. Every call you take will be different, and you’ll have the satisfaction of helping more people in a single day than you imagine.
One minute you’re having a conversation with someone to understand their needs. The next you’re setting someone up with a new product. The next you’re helping Margaret in Harrogate register her new address.
This all means that you’ll need to be the kind of person who can listen carefully and make sure your calls are productive conversations. The kind of conversation where everyone knows what their options are, and how to make the most of them, at the end of it.
The most important thing to remember is that you’re never on your own. Your leader and your team will be there to support you, and the skills you develop here can help take your career in lots of directions across Skipton Building Society.
Just like the lives of our members.
Working in Financial Advice is all about helping people plan for their future. And you’ll find more than just frontline Financial Advisors behind our doors. Here, our skills cover advice propositions, research, operations, customer onboarding, complaints, quality assurance and much more. It’s about delivering all kinds of essential services for our members - which means it takes all kinds of diverse teams to make it happen.
Overall, we’re here to build strong relationships and the work we do really matters. We’re helping people shape their lives, not just their finances.
There are lots of ways into the Financial Advice team. Including from other parts of our business. So you don’t need to know everything from day one, because we’ll support you with comprehensive training. For some roles we also help you gain professional qualifications. All so you can grow your skills, your knowledge and your confidence.
And so you can make sure your future is just as exciting as our members'.
Behind our branches, our teams of Financial Advisers, and our contact centre, there's a whole world of roles that keep the Money team running… and growing… and innovating… and challenging… and delivering… and doing right by our members… and proving that fair and brilliant can exist in the same sentence. Even if it’s a long one like that was.
From Financial Planning and FA Operations to Savings, Quality Assurance, Training and Supervision, Resource Planning, Customer Relations, and Vulnerable Customer support, there's far more to this team than its name suggests.
So whatever your background – customer facing, technical, operational, analytical - something in between, or something we haven’t even thought of yet - there's a good chance that our Money team has a role that’ll surprise you. In a really good way.
The only question left to ask is where do you want to begin?
You don’t need to be a salesperson to work in Money. What matters more is how you talk to people and how well you listen.
You'll be someone who stays calm when things get busy. Someone who asks the right questions and really wants to understand. And you'll understand that treating people fairly and doing the right thing matters, even when it isn’t the easiest option.
If you want to help people feel good about their money and build a career where you can learn, grow, and explore new opportunities, this could be the right place for you
