Doing the right thing for the long term.

Sustainability at Skipton

Planning for the future is part of being a responsible mutual. That's why we’re taking practical steps to support our members, colleagues and communities.

We're keeping an eye on our impact

We think about the impact of what we do across our business, from how we run our operations to the products and services we offer. We’re continually looking for practical ways to improve, whether that’s reducing emissions, using resources more efficiently or supporting more sustainable choices.

Making sustainability a priority

Being a responsible business is part of our mutual heritage.

We’re cutting down on carbon wherever we can

For us, net zero isn’t just a nice thing to say. It’s a big goal. And one that we’re working towards over time. We team up with experts to make our buildings and operations more efficient. And we support members with information and options to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

We’re making our spaces more efficient

We’re taking steps to improve the efficiency of our buildings, including our branches. And we’re making it happen with initiatives like LED lighting, more efficient heating systems, and removing gas from some of our branches.

We’re helping members understand their energy use

We offer eligible members a free check to see how their home uses energy and what improvements could help. We’ve also carried out our own domestic retrofitting project to better understand the process, and we offer extra borrowing options for energy-saving home upgrades.

We’re finding greener ways to travel

We’re helping our colleagues travel more sustainably, and one of our aims is to help cut emissions from commuting and daily travel. In fact, we’ve already launched electric vehicle charging points at the Bailey, our head office, together with electric and hybrid car leasing, and cycle-to-work schemes.

We’re cutting waste and recycling more

Over 99 per cent of our waste is diverted from landfill, and that includes through recycling. We also continually look for ways to manage waste and use resources responsibly across our offices and events as our ways of working evolve.
