What it's like to work here.

Life at Skipton

We’re open. We’re collaborative. And we’re friendly. If you’re looking for a workplace where work feels like this, then you’ve just found it.

How we work

We offer flexible and blended working options for most of our roles, helping you balance your work and life commitments while continuing to deliver the best outcomes for our members.

Head Office

For colleagues based in Head Office, our blended working approach combines working from home with regular time together at The Bailey (our main office in Skipton). Being together in person is an important part of how we collaborate, build relationships and stay connected to our shared purpose of helping people have a home, save for life ahead and support long-term financial wellbeing. How this works in practice will vary by role, but our approach is designed to bring people together regularly each week, recognising the value this creates for our members, customers, teams and the way we work.

Branch

Our branch colleagues provide face to face support in local communities, so flexibility can look different depending on role and location. While the majority of time will be spent in branch, we still aim to offer flexibility where we can while meeting the needs of our members and branches.

Field based roles

Some of our roles are field based, supporting colleagues and members across different locations. For these roles, flexibility may look different again, shaped around travel, operational needs and being where support is needed.

Permanent flexible working

We also support more permanent flexible working arrangements, such as part time hours or job share. These are considered on an individual basis, considering personal circumstances and business requirements.

We know flexibility means different things to different people, so our approach focuses on balance and supporting individual needs, while continuing to deliver for our members and the wider business.

Time together in person

Spending time together in person is a key part of how we work and who we are. Being together helps people grow and learn as individuals, build strong relationships, and feel more connected to our purpose. It also enables us to collaborate more effectively, make better decisions and deliver stronger outcomes for our members and customers.

Technology plays an important role in keeping us connected and giving colleagues flexibility. However, our ways of working are designed to bring colleagues together in person regularly for learning, problem solving, decision making and building a strong culture, using virtual working where it adds genuine value.

Speaking up and making change

Speaking up is part of how we make things better. We actively encourage open, honest feedback all year round, in teams, in one to ones and in day-to-day conversations, and we treat it as a catalyst for action.

Colleagues also have regular opportunities to share their views through our colleague survey, several times a year. We use what we hear to make informed changes across the business. Feedback doesn’t sit still, it leads to conversations, decisions and tangible improvements that you will be part of, both locally and at scale.

Come and be you

We value what everyone brings to Skipton. We’re creating a fair place where you can be yourself. And, most importantly, we’re aiming to build a workplace that sets the standard for inclusion and belonging.

It means Skipton is a place that truly welcomes everyone.

Whoever you are, this is a place for you.
