We’re looking for our future technical experts, and we’re ready do everything we can to help you get there. Fast.

Throughout our two year programme, you’ll experience placements across a variety of business areas. Tech and data is a key part of all of our teams, so your placements could range from our Digital team right through to our Contact Centre and we will work with you throughout to find where your passion lies. As part of the programme, you’ll take on group tasks as part of cross functional business teams and get a great understanding of our corporate strategy. You’ll make the most of dedicated development days. You’ll discover how we make data driven decisions, how we invest in our digital strategy to support our customer needs, how cyber security is more important than ever and much more. All while using feedback from colleagues, peers and mentors to help you grow.

We are committed to supporting colleagues to work in the way that suits them best and enables them to deliver for our customers and colleagues.  So you may be working from our Head Office or working from home, or a mixture of both, all we ask is that you are able to spend a minimum of 2 days per month in Head Office to enable you to connect with your leader and other colleagues.

What can you expect?

Our Graduate Programme offers an unmissable chance to learn, grow and develop your technical skills, and we can work with you and your interests to find you placements which will give you the most value. We’ll also encourage you to work out of your comfort zone and give things a go. Here’s what you can expect during our two year programme…

  • Before you join us

    We’ll make sure you feel part of our business from the day you accept your offer. Before the programme begins, we’ll stay in touch by, inviting you to introductory online meetings, and by sharing as much info as we can about our business and the way we work. All to help you get off to a great start when the big day arrives.

  • Year 1

    Your first year will begin with a comprehensive onboarding and induction programme to make sure you’re ready. First, we’ll invite you to a virtual pre-boarding session to check you have everything you need. We’ll follow that with a welcome event that will offer more detail on the programme, and introduce you to key business leaders.

    After that, you’ll get stuck in to your first placements around our business. And we’ll organise a number of short modules throughout to help you hit the ground running and make a great first impression, develop key skills in networking, influencing, commercial thinking and more that will help you make a difference, and show you how everything fits together at Skipton so you can connect the dots.

  • Year 2

    You’ll spend most of your second year taking part in 2 or 3 placements.

    But this year, we’ll also help you develop a true business focus with presentation skills, feedback and coaching workshops. You’ll also have the opportunity to present back to the business to help you learn and build even more, and we’ll support you as you grow your technical expertise and make the kind of career choices that will really help you stand out.

What happens afterwards?

Remember, we’re looking for our tech experts of the future. So, once you complete our two year Graduate Programme, we’ll help you find a permanent role here at Skipton Building Society. We’ll support you with your application and interview for any roles you apply for. And if you’re successful, we’ll then arrange for you to work with a mentor and we’ll review your progress and development twice a year along with our People Team.

Who we’re looking for?

We’re looking for graduates who have the potential and passion to work for an organisation who are wanting to try new things, make more use of tech and make data driven decisions. Azure skills may be a hot topic at the moment, but we want you to be flexible and open minded to explore and keep up to date with developments in technical and digital requirements for the organisation.

So, here’s what we’ll expect from you…

  • You’ll have the energy and motivation to match the pace we set when it comes to learning, and you’ll be able to develop yourself just as fast.
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate a passion for technology and/or data
  • You’ll be able to engage and collaborate with people at all levels of business, and in lots of different ways such as face to face meetings, virtual sessions and in writing.
  • You’ll be brave and agile enough to cope with a constantly changing environment.
  • You’ll understand our customers and the financial services industry.
  • You’ll be able to analyse and interpret large amounts of data and information.
  • You’ll have plenty of resilience.

What does the application process involve?

If you’re ready to find your good place on our Digital, Tech and Data Graduate Programme, here’s how our application process works…

  • Stage 1 - Applying

    You’ll need to complete our application form and send us your CV.

  • Stage 2 – Online Tests

    We’ll send you online tests to complete which will help us understand more about you and you skills and abilities. We’ll use your test results along with your CV to select candidates who we think have the skills to deliver and to thrive on the programme.

  • Stage 3 - Assessment Centre

    If you’re successful, we’ll invite you to take part in an assessment centre alongside other candidates. It will consist of an interactive session that’s all about engaging, collaborating, and being creative in the face of change. Then you'll take part in an interview where we’ll ask you about own individual motivations, your previous experience, and what you expect to get out of our programme. Finally we’ll ask you to reflect on what you’ve learned during the process so far, and how you might apply that in the future.

  • Stage 4 - The offer!

Work Placements

Each year we offer a limited number of paid work placements across different business areas to give you an experience of what it’s like to work at Skipton. It’s a great opportunity to get involved in our work, culture and business. You’ll learn from our people and be able to make a difference in your role straight away. It might even be a significant step towards securing a full time opportunity with us!

You’ll need to be studying and be able to take 12 months out from your degree to be considered for a ‘Placement Year’.
