Take the next step
Join us as a graduate on our two year Graduate Leadership Programme, and we’ll help you find your good place here at Skipton Building Society.
Making the move from University to work is about finding out who you are, and what your future looks like. It’s about searching for an organisation that shares your values. It’s about using your experience of debating, dancing, baking and more, to do the right thing – for your career, for the planet, for society.
We’re here to help our customers plan for their life ahead. But getting that right means helping our people do the same.
So, you’ll discover an open, honest and inclusive environment that will inspire you to be yourself, and to be brave, bold and agile when it comes to your career. It’s somewhere that encourages you to question the way things work. And it’s where your fresh approach and innovative thinking will make a genuine impact.
And when it comes to working at Skipton Building Society, with everything it offers, we’re pretty sure you’ll find your good place.
And then some.
We’re looking for our future leaders, and we’re ready do everything we can to help you get there.
Throughout our two year programme, you’ll experience placements across a variety of business areas. You’ll take on group tasks as part of cross functional business teams. You’ll get a great understanding of our corporate strategy. You’ll make the most of dedicated development days. You’ll discover customer interactions, budget and project management, risk, regulations, real responsibility, and much more. All while using feedback from colleagues, peers and mentors to help you grow. Fast.
But our graduate experience doesn’t end there. We offer:
Our Graduate Leadership Programme offers an unmissable chance to learn, grow and develop, and you’ll build valuable skills in everything from project management to decision making. Here’s what you can expect during our two year programme…
We’ll make sure you feel part of our business from the day you accept your offer. Before the programme begins, we’ll stay in touch by, inviting you to introductory online meetings, and by sharing as much info as we can about our business and the way we work. All to help you get off to a great start when the big day arrives.
Your first year will begin with a comprehensive onboarding and induction programme to make sure you’re ready. First, we’ll invite you to a virtual pre-boarding session to check you have everything you need. We’ll follow that with a welcome event that will offer more detail on the programme, and introduce you to key business leaders. And finally, we’ll set up 1-2-1 video calls with our leadership team to take place during your first few months.
After that, you’ll get stuck in to your first two placements around our business. And we’ll organise a number of short modules throughout to help you hit the ground running and make a great first impression, develop key skills in networking, influencing, commercial thinking and more that will help you make a difference, and show you how everything fits together at Skipton so you can connect the dots.
You’ll spend most of your second year taking part in your third and fourth placements.
But this year, we’ll also help you develop a true business focus with presentation skills, feedback and coaching workshops. You’ll also have the opportunity to present back to the business to help you learn and build even more, and we’ll support you as you grow your leadership expertise and make the kind of career choices that will really help you stand out.
Remember, we’re looking for our leaders of the future. So, once you complete our two year Graduate Leadership Programme, we’ll help you find a permanent role here at Skipton Building Society. We’ll support you with your application and interview for any roles you apply for. And if you’re successful, we’ll then arrange for you to work with a mentor and we’ll review your progress and development twice a year along with our People Team.
We’re looking for graduates who have the potential to grow into our future leaders. Which means your potential, your knowledge and your skills are more important than your degree subject and expected grade.
So, here’s what we’ll expect from you…
If you’re ready to find your good place on our Graduate Leadership Programme, here’s how our application process works…
You’ll need to complete our application form and send us your CV.
If your application is successful in progressing to assessment stage, we’ll send you two online tests to complete which will help us understand more about you and your skills and abilities. We’ll use your test results along with your CV to help select candidates who we think have the skills to deliver and prioritise work, and the ability to interpret and analyse data.
If you’re successful at Stage 2, we’ll invite you to take part in an assessment centre alongside other candidates. It will consist of an interactive session that’s all about engaging, collaborating, and being creative in the face of change. Then you'll take part in a virtual interview where we’ll ask you about own individual motivations, your previous experience, and what you expect to get out of our programme. Finally we’ll ask you to reflect on what you’ve learned during the process so far, and how you might apply that in the future.
If you’ve made it this far, we’ll be in touch ASAP to tell you the good news!
